The essence of mentoring is providing a sustained, unconditional relationship with a child. Through sustained interest, caring and acceptance, the youth begin to think of themselves as worthy of the attention. They may apply this new, stronger sense of self-confidence to other relationships and situations. Mentoring is not a solution for all the problems and deficiencies facing youth and their families. Rather, mentoring provides an opportunity to invest into the life of child who could benefit from the additional support. Mentor Connection collaborates with other JFS departments,schools, religious institutions and other community agencies to provide additional support services as needed.

The Mentor Connection program takes a proactive approach to mentoring. The goals for the youth in the program include:
