program standards

In 2006, Mentor Michigan created the Quality Program Standards for Youth Mentoring. This document was developed to assist Michigan's mentoring programs in operating with the highest possible quality. The Standards are in place in order for youth to receive the most beneficial and productive results from a mentoring relationship.
Mentor Connection is one of the few mentoring programs that comply with all 11 of the Mentor Michigan Quality Program Standards for Youth.

Research has shown the duration, or length of a mentoring relationship is a very important indicator of positive outcomes for mentees. According to "A Snapshot of the Current State of Mentoring" published in 2005 by National Mentoring Partnership, the average mentor/mentee match duration is 9 months.
Mentor Connection's match duration averages 16 months, almost double to national average.

According to the Mentor Michigan Census, Wave III published in December 2005, only 39% of the mentoring programs in Southeast Michigan conduct federal background checks for mentors and only 18% do fingerprint checks on mentors.
Mentor Connection conducts federal background checks using SafetyNET, a nationwide FBI fingerprint-based background check available to mentoring programs throughout the country.
